Mr. E. Hunt CP English 2, Period 3 9th September 2015 Hades Is the God of the underworld. He is the son of Cronus and his brothers are Zeus and Poseidon. Hades had very few friends and many enemies due to the fact of his untruthful nature. Hades became ruler of the underworld when his brothers and he drew straws for the underworld, sea, and Olympus; Hades got the short end of the stick. Hades is able to turn invisible and summon the dead. His strengths are that he’s a very witty and can trick people very easily but his weakness is he doesn’t have a big number of alliances. His Relations with humanity is he rules all the dead so once they die they are ruled by him. Demeter’s was one of Hades enemies because Hades abducted his daughter from him. There are many books that have been based off of the Greek mythology tales of not just Hades but a lot of the many other Greek Gods. One of the most popular ways that kids and many adults have seen Hades today is in the original Disney film Hercules. However the story in the movie is very inaccurate because Hades is portrayed as evil but Hades truly isn’t evil it was just the way the story was told. He is also potrayed in the church. He is somewhat sown to be the devil. The artist of this painting is “The Underworld Painter” his paintings date back to the second half of the 4th century BC. He usually painted on vases; most of his art that is found is in a museum and not in the best of shape. When he does his art his people that he draws is gloomy and not really noticeable. His famous painting would be the one I chose “Journey to the Underworld” it’s about this man named Orpheus son of Apollo. He falls in love with a girl names Eurydice and they are about to get married. But Orpheus can’t find his soon to be wife and when he finds her she is dead she was killed by a snake. Orpheus takes this really hard and he is sad, he travels the world alone. One day he wants to look for her so he goes into the underworld playing music keeping the sprits away. He reaches Hades and tells him he want his wife back, so Hades gives him a deal he says if you want your wife back you must leave start the journey out of the underworld and your wife will be behind you the whole time but if you look back you will lose her. At the end of his journey out of the underworld he see the light he can’t help it to look back as he does she is crying as she fades away back to Hades. This painting teaches us don’t make bets if your not going to keep your promise or not finish. This teaches us to finish what we start and look back at the results when we are done. |
