Intelligents-level: 4/10 Strength-level: 8/10 Dexterity-level: 7/10 Constitution-level: 5/10 Ares is the Greek god of war and bloodlust, where he was the carnage and violence of war and his sister, Athena, was the tactical side. He had few powers such as super human strength and fearlessness; however he was decisive and had a great deal of determination. But with strength there come weaknesses, he was impulsive and bloodthirsty, plus he would go into battle regardless of the consequences. Ares was born of Hera who used an herb to get herself pregnant, and thus had Ares. However Zeus and Hera didn’t much care for him and paid no mind when he was stolen by two Cyclops and was kept in a bronze jar for several years. But luckily was later rescued by Hermes. Hera knowing he wouldn’t be safe, she gave him to Priapus, who trained him in dancing and martial arts. One of his biggest rivals was his sister Athena, who was the god of tactical war and who fought against Ares in the Trojan wars in favor of the Greeks. Some of his allies though were his many kids, such as his sons Phobos and Deimos and his daughter Adrestia, and perhaps Aphrodite. He was also a great influence in humanity, participating in the Trojan War in favor of the Trojans but ultimately had to retreat due to severe injuries.
Ares in modern day influence ( Andrew Jimenez )
Ares has had some influence in things for modern day society such as books, movies, and even video games. Ares has been in the hit series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Ares is also in the movie Wrath of the Titans where he is played by Edgar Ramirez. Ares is in some of the early Wonder Woman comics as her enemy. He is mainly an annoyance to her, someone to give her doubts or second thoughts. He is in some video games such as Injustice: Gods Among Us and God of War series. In everything he is portrayed in he is always given this tough brute look with a bad temper.
Ares in art Influence ( Mario Cazarin )
The sculptor that sculpted the Ludovisi Ares is Gianlorenzo Bernini. He was born in the Kingdom of Naples in 1598 and he lived to be 81 when he died in Rome in 1682. He was not only a sculptor but he also painted, wrote plays, and designed metalwork and stage sets. He dominated as a sculptor of his age. He was an Italian artist that worked out of Rome also he was a successor of Michelangelo. He was a very religious man; he was working in the Counter Reformation. He used light as an important metaphorical device in his religious setting, he would often use hidden light sources that could intensify the focus of religious worship.
This sculpture is being used to show the youth of the young god of war. With Ares not having a beard in this statue is showing his youth. Also with the Eros the god of desire and attraction playing at his feet is drawing huge attention to the fact that the god of war is in a moment of repose and is being represented as a love object in this period of time. Ares I shown here seated on a trophy of arms with this we are able to see his godliness because a trophy of arms is usually captured from a enemy of war.
